Penncrest Band Program

The Penncrest Jazz Program, under the direction of Craig Snyder, focuses on style and improvisation as it explores and presents America’s Unique Art Form.

Auditions are held in the fall and determine placement in either the Jazz Band or Jazz Lab. The band performs at concerts and community events as well as jazz festivals. Performance highlights have included Disney’s Magic Music Days, the Heritage Music Festival in Boston, the North American Music Festival in Washington DC, as well as local and regional high school and collegiate jazz festivals and competitions. Past and current members of the ensemble have performed with the Delaware County All-Star Big Band as well as the PMEA All-State Jazz Band, the Kimmel Center Youth Jazz Orchestra, Jamey Aebersold’s Summer Jazz Workshop, and the Berklee Five-Week Summer Performance Program. In 2015, the Penncrest Jazz Band was honored to have been chosen to perform at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association State Conference, where they presented their program, “The Oliver Nelson Songbook.”

The Penncrest High School Roaring Lions Marching Band hails from Media, Pennsylvania, and performs regularly at Penncrest's home and away football games, parades in Media, PA, and band festivals in the region. The band has won numerous PA State Championships in both USBands and Tournament of Bands circuits. The Roaring Lions are under the direction of Craig Snyder.

The mission statement of the band reads: "We work as a supportive community to achieve music and marching success." The staff and student leaders use this guiding statement to create the annual goals and activities of the band. While the band strives for group success, we believe this starts with each and every individual in the program. Developing and maintaining a welcoming, inclusive yet demanding culture is the first step to success on and off the field. Through participation in the Penncrest band, students gain crucial skills such as: being on time, time management, communication, goal completion, teamwork, creative problem solving, compassion for and acceptance of others, and the fact that attitude is everything!
