Craig Snyder

Director of Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Lab and Band

Craig Snyder has been an active trumpet player, music educator, clinician, and conductor in the Philadelphia area for over thirty years. He holds degrees in music education from Penn State University and the American Band College at Southern Oregon University. His performance credits extend from ceremonial wedding music to rock and funk bands to big bands and jazz combos, and range from private affairs to national television audiences. Since the fall of 2002, Craig has served as the Director of Bands at Penncrest High School. The Penncrest ensembles have received critical acclaim as well as Superior ratings on a local as well as a national level. In 2015, the Penncrest Jazz Band presented “The Oliver Nelson Songbook” at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association State Conference. As a jazz educator, he believes strongly in the importance of teaching improvisation and stylistic playing as we celebrate and explore America’s unique art form.

 

Craig is a member and past president of PMEA District 12. In 2016, he was inducted into Phi Beta Mu, the international bandmasters' honor fraternity. In 2018, he was a national Top Ten finalist for the Grammy Music Educator Award. He is also currently the Director of Advanced Music Network, a service that helps students connect with private music instructors across the region.
